"When my son Liam was five he asked ME to take a class. This was so far off my radar that I had never even considered it. But who could argue with such a reasonable request. It turned out that Mojo Dojo had a very vibrant adult program and I was immediately hooked. What surprised me was what an incredible workout I got. It was legs, core, aerobic - all wrapped up into one. That plus the mental discipline needed to learn new things left me pleasantly exhausted after every class. Add to that the amazing community made up of the students, instructors, and parents and you have an incredible place for any member of the family. It is four years later and my son and I are rapidly approaching our black belt testing date. That will mark the start of a whole new phase of our lives in Mojo Dojo, something I am very much looking forward to experiencing." -SL
"My son and I signed up for karate classes together in October 2012. I had no idea what was in store for me as a 45-year-old mom, as someone who had never practiced any martial art ever. I always thought of myself as a "yoga person," but I wanted to share something physically challenging with my young son. I set a goal to earn a black belt as my fiftieth birthday gift to myself. Three years later, both my son and I are brown belts, and I finally believe I can achieve my crazy, inspired goal. Along the way, I have had to overcome many fears and obstacles to stick with karate, and I have become much stronger physically and mentally because of my practice. There really are no words to express my gratitude to Shihan, Mr. Adam, and other advanced students who are my mentors and champions. I am so grateful to be in the dojo with them." -AG
As an adult, you may be looking for ways to improve your health, physical conditioning, diet, self-confidence, self-esteem, manage stress and/or anger.
Parents of my younger students have also found their own desire to begin training. At first it may have been to support their child's interest in karate, but then developed into something they did for themselves as well.
You will witness changes in your physical appearance, cardiovascular condition, overall strength, and confidence. Karate training will help you reduce stress and cultivate mindfulness. You’ll also develop the ability to defend yourself and your loved ones.
Too old to start? One of our black belts attained the level of 5th degree master, after starting his karate training at the age of 55.
